I’m going to show you how easy it is to make homemade bagels.
One and a half cups of warm water, one tablespoon of sugar, and one packet of active dry yeast.
Give it a mix. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Okay, after 10 minutes, it should have this thin layer
of foam on the top. In my mixing bowl, I have four cups of flour. I’m adding one tablespoon
of salt in the yeast mixture. You’re going to let this knead with the dough hook for about 10 minutes.
Okay, it’s been 10 minutes. I like to knead by hand for just a couple minutes until I have a nice
smooth dough ball. And you’re going to grab a large bowl, add a little bit of olive oil,
and just spread it evenly. Add the dough to the bowl, cover, and let it rest for one hour. Okay,
it’s been one hour. It should be doubled in size. You’re going to punch the air out,
and then dump it out. I’m just going to kind of reshape it into a ball, then cut it into eight
equal parts. Shape all of these into balls, then just poke a hole through the center,
shape them like this, and onto a piece of parchment paper. You’re going to cover and let
rest for another 30 minutes. And you’re going to boil them for one minute, then flip for 30 more
seconds, and add them directly to some parchment paper. Brush on an egg wash. This is where you’re
going to add toppings if you want. I’m doing jalapeno cheddar, everything bagel, and leaving
these four plain. 400 for 25 minutes. All done. They look so good.
